Obituary for Robert Clifton "Cliff" Wallace

Robert Clifton “Cliff” Wallace passed away Monday June 18, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born January 8th, 1930 in Birmingham, Alabama to Henry Martin and Mary Kathleen (Chandler) Wallace. He was the 10th of 10 children.

Cliff graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1954 with a degree in History. He entered the US Army as a 2nd Lt and was in the Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Cliff was fortunate to spend his professional life combining 2 of his favorite areas of interest - sports and photography. Cliff taught US History and coached football at Shawnee, Providence and Atherton High Schools. He later became a professional photographer and for many years took pictures of U of L football and basketball games. Another notable highlight in his photographic career came during the devastating April 3, 1974 tornado when Cliff snapped the only known photo of the tornado actually touching down to the ground in Louisville.

Cliff and his wife Charleen enjoyed traveling and spent much time in their motor home visiting many sites throughout the United States.

He had been a member of Southeast Christian Church since 1978.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charleen Sullivan Wallace and three children, Charlie Wallace, Roea Catherine Wallace and Carrie Williamson (Gordon). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christian and Rex Wallace, Emile and Corinna Vendette, Ryan and Rachel Williamson.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2018 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd.

His memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Highlands Funeral Home, with a private burial at a later date.
